School Chair

An exciting opportunity exists for a capable and passionate leader to take on this position, commencing January 2020.

Tarremah is a well-established, vibrant independent school situated on Mouheneener country, fifteen minutes south of Hobart, in close proximity to a nature reserve, beaches, and kunyani (Mt Wellington). Turning thirty this year, the school is governed by a dynamic and capable group of community members and managed collaboratively by an Executive group consisting of Faculty representatives, the Business Manager, Education Administrator and School Chair following a republican model. All those in positions of authority are called upon to aspire to a spirit of service inspired by ideals of inclusivity, the cultivation of the individual and care for the collective ‘good’.

Tarremah offers classes from Kindergarten to Class 10 and has a school population of around 245 students. Our location allows us to take advantage of Tasmania’s wilderness, world heritage areas, coastlines and indigenous cultural sites. The city of Hobart offers a vibrant cultural life that rivals larger cities, while Hobart’s smaller size makes more of this culture accessible to everyone.

The School Chair convenes the School Executive and the College of Teachers, and liaises between those bodies and the School Council. The School Chair is also ultimately responsible for all day to day operations of the school. This includes delivery of the school’s educational and financial vision, ensuring the development of, and adherence to policies, procedures and controls, consistent with good governance, compliance with all external rules and regulations placed upon the school, both State and Federal.

This role, which is critical to the ongoing success of the School, offers an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced individual with high level leadership, administration, communication and management skills who can demonstrate the expertise and proficiency needed to successfully run and grow an independent school.

Specifically, we are looking for someone who can operate in a collegial manner, who can inspire the school community to work collectively towards shared goals, and who possesses the experience and desire to maintain and further develop the shared vision of this learning community.

The successful applicant for this position will need to be registered as a teacher in Tasmania and hold a current Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People card and relevant First Aid training.
