Classes

Steiner teachers work within a framework of the Steiner Education Australian curriculum, but are encouraged to incorporate their own passions and remain flexible enough to respond to the needs of the class in front of them.

Lessons are brought in an artistic and creative way, and cater to the developmental stage of the child according to the indications of Rudolf Steiner. Each stage of development is met by an appropriate epoch, which helps to build the moral fabric of the children.

Introduction

Tarremah teachers tailor their lessons to the class in front of them and focus on the needs of the individual students. Follow the journey of a child at Tarremah Steiner School by using the arrows.

0-7 Years

Willing

Each child's will is developed through imitation, repetition and reverence. The curriculum is play based and allows for individual and group based play whilst developing a capacity for imagination and social co-operation. Each Kindergarten has a mixed age group of children allowing for older children to lead and nurture, whilst younger children learn through imitation.

7-14 Years

Feeling

The child enters primary school with a new found capacity for memory. They learn through their emotions and feelings which is awakened through a rich storytelling environment. The Class Teacher develops a lasting relationship with the emotional life of the class and individuals. Specialist teachers bring a love of music, craft, physical education, German and Japanese languages.

14+ Years

Thinking

Students in the secondary school are challenged to awaken their capacity for rational judgement and thinking. Specialist teachers stimulate original thinking by unfolding the world to each child through their individual subject area of expertise which includes humanities, science and the arts. In this way independent thinking is developed allowing the child to find their own place in the world.

Content is carefully selected and presented through rhymes, poems, movement, songs, art and modeling, oral story telling and writing. Mathematic concepts unfold through practical, kinaesthetic activities, stories, memorization, and practice. Workbooks are developed artistically and with pride. Every classroom is aesthetically beautiful and orderly, assisting the children’s inward development.

From preschool onward, the children develop an appreciation for the rhythms of nature and of their day. Nature is explored – festivals are celebrated. Every year the teacher revisits and builds upon the concepts learned, in a spiraling curriculum from Class 1 through to Class 10.

I spend every day working with kind, hard-working, confident students who have a great sense of fun. Watching these children mature into grounded, mature young adults is incredibly rewarding, and a testament to the quality of the school.
