Early childhood

“Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
The soul that rises in us, our life’s star
Hath elsewhere its setting
And cometh from afar.”

Wordsworth

The first seven years in a child’s life are vital for laying the foundation for the future growth of the whole child’s physical, intellectual, social and emotional development. The early childhood programme encourages children to enter the world at a natural pace, in an environment which is warm, aesthetically pleasing and safe.  The educational philosophy acknowledges the child’s developmental stage in preparation for a meaningful transition to primary school.

At Tarremah we offer:

Playgroup – where parents and their children, up to four years old, gather weekly.  The two-hour morning and afternoon sessions give children the opportunity to meet one another socially and parents can share experiences and gain an insight into this unique form of education through the playgroup leader.  Playgroup is held on Mondays and Fridays.

Little Kinder – for children who turn four during the course of the year.  Here younger children can feel comfortable away from their parents and begin to socialise through play.

Mixed Kinder – Prep – where children who turn five or six come together as one group to further develop and consolidate healthy social and emotional behaviours through creative play.  In the kindergarten the children are given no particular formal academic instruction.  Numeracy and pre-literacy skills are imparted in an artistic way, primarily through play, verse, singing, music, movement, painting, drawing, cooking, modelling, gardening and caring for animals.

The Tarremah Early Childhood Centre is a member of the Australian Association for Rudolf Steiner Early Childhood Education and the Alliance for Childhood.
